Why you NEED to Switch to Natural Deodorant
Oh, deodorants. You've been thrust on us since our awkward pre-teen days, and we accepted you into a part of our daily routines without question. Traditional deodorants - or, more accurately - antiperspirants, are effective because they inhibit our body's natural sweat production wherever they applied. Less sweat = less stinky, right? Wrong. Unpleasant underarm odour is actually caused by BACTERIA, not sweat. There's a special type of bacteria that likes to grow in those damp, warm crevices on our bodies. Think underarms, groin, and between folds of fat. As we sweat, the bacteria starts growing, which causes an increase in that pungent gym-locker odour.
Now - you may be thinking - so what if antiperspirants inhibit sweat? Isn't that a good thing? The answer lies in a completely different part of our bodies - the lymph nodes.
Lymph nodes are small glands that filter toxins, bacteria, and diseased cells out of our bodies. They are located in the armpits, on either side of the neck, groin, and above the collarbone. You may notice that these happen to be the sweatiest areas of your body - sweating through these areas allows your body to rid itself of dead and diseased bacteria and cells, which allows your body to stay healthy and balanced.
When these lymph nodes are blocked (ex - through the use of antiperspirants), toxins can become trapped and will build up in these areas. Does that sound like something you'd want to happen inside your body? I don't think so!
That is why the long-term use of antiperspirants can have a negative impact on your overall health.
